The Rambla is probably the most famous street in Spain. It leads from Plaça Catalunya to the old harbour of Barcelona, Port Vell. The Rambla is at the same time the place of the entertainers, musicians and painters. Along the street, some of the most famous cafés and restaurants of the city are found.

What does the name Rambla mean

Actually the Rambla consists of more than one street, which is why you can sometimes hear the use of Ramblas in plural. Rambla actually means river bank, coming from the arabic Rami. Before there was a river where The Rambla is now.

Liceu

Liceu is a world famous opera house, situated at The Rambla. Here the local Montserrat Caballé and José Carreras have performed many times. The place has burnt down several times, but has now been restored and is ready for the splendid musical performances that made Liceu famous.

The Boqueria market

The market La Boqueria is another of the famous places of the city and The Rambla. Here almost everything eatable can be found, but La Boqueria also has books and wine. The market has been where it is now for more around 1000 years
