Vega Sicilia is one of the best and oldest wineries in Spain
Vega Sicilia is one of the best known wines in Spain and the rest of the world. Vega Sicilia's wines are among the most apreciated and most expensive ones in Spain, and even the Spanish kings have had them as favorites for more than a century.
The winery was founded in 1864 by Eloy Lecanda. In the beginning the name was Bodegas Lecanda, and it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the winery changed name to Bodegas Vega Sicilia. Jesús Anadón was the winemaker during the 1940's, 50's and 60's and he did a fantastic job at the winery. In 1964 the winery was sold to the Neumann family. Before leaving, Anadón hired Mariano García, a young, brilliant enologist who succeeded in making some of the very best wines in Spain. After working at Vega Sicilia for 30 years, García left the winery.
In 1982, the Álvarez family purchased the Vega Sicilia winery and its vineyards. In 1998 the winery hired enologist Xavier Ausàs.
The Vineyards
Areal: 120 hectares/49 acres
Grape variety: Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec.
Soil: The soils mainly consist of clay and limestone.
Climate: continental with Atlantic influences

The reference of Vega Sicilia. Made of grapes from the oldest vines of the winehouse.

Valbuena 5°
The wine ages shorter than Único and it comes from younger vines. Still a very good wine with complex, savoury notes and mature tanins.

This wine is a coupage of different years of the best wines.
