The Hotel 1898 can be found in one of Barcelona’s historical buildings at the Ramblas. The charming hotel has its own style and keeps many historic elements. It is a renovated neoclassical building designed in 1881 by the Catalan architect Josep Oriol Mestres. The building was the private residence of the family of Antonio López y López, Marquis of Comillas, founders of the Spanish Transatlantic Company and famous businessmen.
In 1929 and after a profound remodeling the building became the headquarters of the General Company of Tobaccos of the Philippines. In 2005, following extensive renovation by Núñez i Navarro, the building was reborn as the Hotel 1898. Its name dates back on the year when the two Spanish colonies of Cuba and the Philippines declaring their independence.
Hotel 1898 is a unique place with Colonial flair while in the interior of the hotel, guests can admire the photographic work of Marina Espeus.
