Among the highlights are Plaça del Rei, the square of the kings where Columbus was welcomed by after his first trip to America by the Catholic Kings (Ferdinand and Isabella), the Roman Walls that surrounded the Roman city of Barcino as well as the local's favourite spots.
The density of imposing buildings scattered around the narrow streets of the medieval city core bear witnesses to a rich history from a time when Barcelona was a super power in the Mediterranean together with cities like Venice and Genova. It was here where the famous Inquisition spread fear At Plaça Sant Felip Neri you will come across a testimony from a key event in Spain from the 20th century's: the bombings of Barcelona during the Civil War (1936-39).
