The Barcelona Gothic Quarter Tour
Travel back in time to Europe's best preserved gothic quarter
The Gothic Quarter (in Spanish: Barrio Gótico) of Barcelona is one of the best preserved medieval areas in the World: it combines intact plazas, palaces, churches and monuments dating back to the 13th and 14th century. Among the highlights are Plaça del Rei, the square of the kings where Columbus was welcomed by after his first trip to America by the Catholic Kings (Ferdinand and Isabella), the Roman Walls that surrounded the Roman city of Barcino as well as the local's favourite spots.
The density of imposing buildings scattered around the narrow streets of the medieval city core bear witnesses to a rich history from a time when Barcelona was a super power in the Mediterranean together with cities like Venice and Genova. It was here where the famous Inquisition spread fear At Plaça Sant Felip Neri you will come across a testimony from a key event in Spain from the 20th century's: the bombings of Barcelona during the Civil War (1936-39).
The Barcelona Gothic Quarter Tour takes you through the most important sights of the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona, from the Cathedral of Barcelona (La Seu), the cobbled streets of the Born area, the narrow streets of the old Jewish Quarter (the Call) to the Roman ruins.
